Value is the key to influence (2/2)
In the first post, I spoke about the need to communicate your organization's value clearly and succinctly. In this post, I give you the equation with which to do so. Here it is: We do X, so that Y. X is what you do; Y is the outcome of what you do. See, simple. But not easy. If you're like most organizations, you will find it difficult to cull your activity to the least common denominator--but you must have the discipline to do it. If not, you will dilute your value and confuse the public....

Value is the key to influence (1/2)
Most small and medium-sized companies don't lack value; they are unable to communicate it clearly. As a result, those who are looking for them don't find them. Even more, they minimize their ability to influence because their value goes unnoticed and misunderstood. Doing Nothing: A Key to Effective Public Affairs
I love nature videos. The wild offers so many metaphors for life. One of these videos is staying with me, and I want to share it with you. The videos show two polar bears hunting beluga whales together in the Arctic. Everything is the same, except their approaches. One bear is older—he has a quiet confidence. He’s deliberate, unhurried. He climbs onto a rock and waits. All day. He understands that as the tides rise, the belugas move closer to shore. Over time, the environment will shift in...

About

Hi, I'm Bryan Murray

I didn’t take a straight path to the C-Suite. My career began in entry-level sales at a biopharma company, where I learned how influence, trust, and persistence drive results. From there, I climbed into leadership roles — but not without setbacks.

I’ve been passed over for promotions, downsized in corporate restructuring, and forced to retool my skills to move forward. Every challenge became a classroom. Every transition forced me to grow. And over the last 30 years, those experiences forged a leadership perspective that resonates with what my clients face today.

In time, I rose to serve as Vice President of Public Affairs, Executive Vice President of Government Relations & Communications, and a member of the C-Suite. I’ve led teams across 19 states, influenced policy that unlocked tens of millions in new opportunities, and built coalitions that made lasting impact.

But what I bring to clients isn’t just boardroom wins — it’s hard-earned lessons about resilience, influence, and clarity in the face of change. I know what it’s like to start small, get knocked back, and keep climbing.

Through the Leadership Growth Membership, I help leaders accelerate their growth without losing themselves in the process. Whether you’re navigating transitions, building influence, or preparing for the next big step, I’m here to help you grow with confidence — because I’ve been where you are.
